ŠKODA Rally Team Hungaria's bid to win its national championship title is back on track following Norbert Herczig's dominant victory on the recent Veszprém Rallye (July 9-10).
Driving a state-of-the-art Fabia Super 2000 prepared by ŠKODA Rally Team Italia, Herczig and co-driver Kálmán Benics led the gravel event from start to finish to move to within eight points of the lead of the Hungarian championship with two rounds remaining.
The victory was the first for ŠKODA Rally Team Hungaria in the highly competitive series and was the perfect response to Herczig's unfortunate crash on the previous round, the Bukfurdo Rallye....

Herczig, who aims to win the Championship this year, has already proved that he is one to watch. He finished second on the Miskolc Rally, round two of the series, last month and is really getting to grips with the Fabia Super 2000, which was new to him last year....

Herczig, whose Škoda Fabia Super 2000 is prepared by the Milan-based Škoda Rally Team Italia, won the Hungarian Rally Championship two years ago with Pierfrancesco Zanchi's Aimont Racing Team. In the following year, 2010, the winning team was reunited, this time in a Škoda Fabia; the first time the Hungarian driver has competed in an S2000 car....

Driving a Fabia Super 2000, the 35-year-old former Hungarian champion, was fastest outright on three of the 15 stages to claim the runner-up spot in the overall standings behind Asi, who made the most of his turbocharged engine to win on the high-speed roads, made treacherous by heavy rain.
After two rounds of the Hungarian championship, Herczig now holds second place in the drivers' classification having finished fourth on round one. Škoda occupies second place in the manufacturers' standings....
